Carl serves The Haykel Group as copy editor for all major projects. He brings to this quality control role extraordinary and extensive experience.
From 2006 to 2008, he served as copy editor at The New York Times, responsible for company press releases, marketing materials and advertorials. Prior to that, from 1998 to 2002, he held two positions in the plain English writing field. At Simplify, LLC, another company founded and run by Charlene Haykel, he served for three years as Director of Editorial Operations. He played a similar role at Lightbulb Press, Inc., from 2000 – 2002. The latter is a publisher of plain English financial advice books. Before and after these tenures, Carl undertook assignments for several publishing houses including: Penguin; HarperCollins; Random House; Holt, Rinehart and Winston; Simon & Schuster; and Cambridge University Press.
Carl holds an AB in anthropology from Columbia College, Columbia University, and has pursued studies at the University of London.
